Testing and Services at The Reading Foundation
The Reading Foundation provides direct, systematic, language-based, spiraling, intensive, one-to-one, Orton-Gillingham and LiPS reading instruction to children and adults of all ages and cognitive levels. It is the philosophy of the Orton-Gillingham methodology, as well as that of The Reading Foundation, that virtually every individual is able to learn to read. Teaching reading is dependant on many factors, and one of the most critical is determining the reading stage of the individual. While many individuals progress developmentally along an expected continuum for reading, up to 40% of the population does not. These individuals are at serious risk for continued reading failure that can continue throughout their lives. By determining the level of reading for the individual experiencing challenges in learning to read, we are able to customize a program that will allow the reader to progress through the developmental reading continuum and reach the goal of literacy. All of our tutorials are individual and customized to the reader.
Testing is often a strong component to understanding how an individual learns. The Reading Foundation offers individualized testing for students of all ages and abilities. The comprehensive testing places the student at the proper stage of reading, determines the specific programs that will benefit that student, and gives specific recommendations that allow school teams to follow through with educational support in the school setting. Please contact Elaine Holden at 882-0992 if you have any questions or wish to schedule an appointment for consultation or testing.
